Mr. Sanmogam Seenivasagam- seeni to his friends was born in Moolai Jaffna on 26.02.1900. Soon after he was born, mother baby joined the father Mr. Velauther Sanmogam who was at time secretary; sanitary board Kuala Lumpur .He received his early education at Victoria Institution Kuala Lumpur where he completed his Cambridge Junior Examination. He had the distinction of being never absent from school for six years for was awarded a gold Medal.
He continued his studies at St.Thomass’ College then located at Mutwal .He had distinguished carrier there representing the school at soccer and serving as a sergeant in the senior cadet Crop. And passed his London inters science Examination. He thereafter proceeded to UK. Where he joined the London school of Economics graduation with a second class Honors in Economics with public Administration as his special subject. At the LSE he had the privilege of being lecture to by subsequent leaders of the British Labor Party – Prime Minister Clement Atlee, Chancellor of the Exchequer Dr.Hugh Dalton and Lord Beveridge.
Returning to Ceylon he joined the Lake House Group of Newspaper as a Chief sub Editor looking after Economics, Constitutional and Financial affairs. He continued in this capacity for twelve years having a ringside view of the wheeling and dealing in Ceylon politics. He began to realize the manner in when his people were being sidelined and became convinced of the need for a national newspaper to voice the interests and view of the Tamil’s of Ceylon .he resigned from the Lake House Group in April 1938 and under took the task of setting up a newspaper. With the outbreak of the war in 1939 more obstacles had to be faced and he had to abandon the project.
It was at this stage that he was invited to join the staff of Kokuvil Hindu College .he was equally at home whether he taught English or Chemistry or Civics or Geography. It was in English that he took great pains in improving the writing skilled of the senior students. Very soon he undertook administrative functions assisting the principal the Late Mr.Karthigesu eventually succeeding him in 1943.
